1967 Won first prize at the John Moores exhibition


1969 Visiting Professor at the Kunsthochschule Hamburg


1970 Retrospective show at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London


1997 Companion of Honour Award, London


2003 Lorenzo de Medici Lifetime Career Award, Florence
