James Nares presents two films at #MoMA, screening in January: a verité political portrait of an IRA operative in No Japs At My Funeral (1980) and Suicide? No, Murder! (1977/2017,) the lyrical diary-film the artist shot on a trip home to England. Nares will be introducing his films on January 13, 2pm, and January 16, 7pm. A full list of screenings is below.
Both films are showing as part of the Club 57 exhibition at MoMA, a survey celebrating film and video created during New York’s post-punk period, including landmark examples of No Wave, Cinema of Transgression, and independent films that grew out of the East Village scene and were first exhibited in area venues like Club 57, New Cinema, Millennium and others.
